Grey “…” marks where text is cut off; red strikethrough is past the hard limit and will be refused. Real cut-offs shift a little with screen width and font.

About the ad copy length checker

Each ad platform has its own character limits, and some cut your text off long before the hard maximum — Meta collapses primary text behind “See more” at around 125 characters, and Pinterest shows only the first 40 characters of a title. This checker counts your primary text, headline and description against the real limits for Meta, Google Search, Google Display, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and X, and shows a preview of where the text gets cut.

How to use it

  1. Pick the platform you are writing for.
  2. Type or paste your primary text, headline and description.
  3. Watch each meter: green fits, amber gets cut off, red is over the hard limit.
  4. Check the preview to see exactly which words survive the cut.

Questions

What is the character limit for Facebook ad primary text?
Meta recommends about 125 characters, because that is roughly where the feed hides the rest behind “See more”. Longer text is allowed, but most people will only read the first line or two.
How long can a Google responsive search ad headline be?
30 characters per headline and 90 per description. You can add up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, and Google mixes them. In Chinese, Japanese and Korean each character counts as 2.
Do emoji count as one character?
It depends on the platform. X counts each emoji as 2 characters. Google counts by code point. For Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and Pinterest this checker counts each emoji as one visible character, which is what readers see.
What is the TikTok ad text limit?
100 characters for English ad text. TikTok also advises against emoji in ad text.
Why does my headline get cut off before the limit?
The hard limit is what the ad manager accepts; the cut-off is how much fits on screen. On LinkedIn, for example, headlines can be 200 characters but get truncated after about 70.
