About the script read time and shorts splitter

Find out how long a story or script takes to read aloud, and split it into parts that each fit a YouTube Short, TikTok or Reel. Parts break only between sentences, so no clip starts mid-thought, and each one is labelled "Part 1/3" and so on, ready to copy into your captions or voiceover notes. Useful for Reddit story channels, narration videos and anyone turning long text into a multi-part series.

How to use it

  1. Paste your story or script into the text box.
  2. Pick a speaking rate — Slow (130 wpm), Normal (160) or Fast (190) — or type your own.
  3. Choose the maximum length per part: Shorts 60s, TikTok 60s, Reels 90s or TikTok 3 minutes.
  4. Read the word count and total read time, then copy each part (or all of them at once).
  5. If a part is marked as over, shorten the long sentence it contains.

Questions

How many words is a 60-second YouTube Short?
At a typical narration pace of about 160 words per minute, 60 seconds is roughly 160 words. Fast voiceovers at 190 wpm fit about 190 words; a slower, dramatic read at 130 wpm fits about 130.
How is read-aloud time calculated?
Words divided by your speaking rate in words per minute. A word is any run of characters between spaces, so numbers and contractions each count as one.
How do I split a long story into parts for TikTok?
Paste it here, choose the length limit, and the tool packs whole sentences into each part until the next sentence would push it past the limit. Abbreviations like "Mr." and "e.g." and quoted dialogue are not treated as sentence ends.
Why is one part marked as over the limit?
That part contains a single sentence that is longer than the limit on its own. The tool won't cut a sentence in half, so break it into shorter sentences and the part will fit.
What speaking rate should I use for an AI voiceover?
Most text-to-speech voices read at roughly 150–180 words per minute at normal speed. Time a short sample of your chosen voice and type that rate in for the most accurate estimate.
