About the wifi qr code

Create a QR code that lets guests join your WiFi by pointing their phone camera at it, with no password to type. Download it as a PNG or print a ready-made card for the fridge, a desk or a guest room. The code is generated in your browser, so your WiFi password is never sent to a server.

How to use it

  1. Type your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your devices.
  2. Choose the security type and enter the password.
  3. Tick “Hidden network” if your router does not broadcast its name.
  4. Press “Download PNG” or “Print card”.
  5. Test it by scanning with your own phone before handing it out.

Questions

How do I scan a WiFi QR code?
On most iPhones and Android phones, open the camera app and point it at the code, then tap the notification that appears. Some Android phones show the scanner in the WiFi settings screen instead.
Is it safe to put my WiFi password in a QR code generator?
With this one the QR code is built on your device and the password is not sent anywhere. Remember that anyone who can see or photograph the code can join your network, so treat a printed card like the password itself.
Which security type should I choose for WPA3?
Choose WPA3 (or WPA2) — they are all written as “WPA” in the QR code, which is the standard value phones expect. The phone negotiates the exact protocol with the router when it connects.
My network name has a semicolon or colon in it. Will it still work?
Yes. Special characters such as \ ; , : and " are escaped automatically, as the WiFi QR format requires.
Does the QR code stop working if I change my password?
Yes. The password is stored inside the code itself, so after changing it you need to make and print a new code.
