About the convert format
Convert an image to JPEG, PNG or GIF. Pick JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics and screenshots that need sharp edges or transparency, and GIF for simple images with few colours. The image is uploaded to our server, converted, and sent back for download.
How to use it
- Click the upload area or drop an image onto it.
- Choose the target format: JPEG, PNG or GIF.
- If you chose JPEG, set the quality slider (default 85%).
- Click Convert (the button names the format you picked), then Download the result.
Questions
- What is the difference between PNG and JPEG?
- JPEG uses lossy compression that suits photos and gives small files. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which suits logos, screenshots and text, but photos saved as PNG are much larger.
- Does converting PNG to JPEG remove the transparent background?
- Yes. JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are replaced with a solid colour. Keep the image as PNG if you need the background to stay see-through.
- Will converting to GIF keep all the colours?
- No. GIF is limited to a palette of 256 colours, so photos converted to GIF lose colour detail and can show banding. It suits simple graphics, not photographs.
