About the social preview checker
See how a link will look when it is shared on X, LinkedIn, Slack and iMessage, before anyone shares it. The checker fetches your page live, the way a platform's crawler does, reads its Open Graph and Twitter card tags, and lists anything missing or malformed with the tag you need to add. It is for anyone about to launch a page or post a link somewhere that matters.
How to use it
- Paste your page URL and press Check.
- Read the list of issues; each error or warning shows the tag to add or fix.
- Use Copy all fixes to grab every suggested tag at once.
- Scroll to How it will look to see the card each platform will build.
- Deploy the fixes and check again until everything passes.
Questions
- Why is my link preview not showing an image?
- Usually og:image is missing, is a relative URL, or points to a file the crawler cannot load. It must be an absolute https URL that returns an image without requiring a login.
- What size should an Open Graph image be?
- 1200x630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio, is the standard size for large link cards on X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Slack.
- I fixed my tags but the old preview still shows. Why?
- Platforms cache link cards. The page itself may be fixed while X, LinkedIn or Slack still show the old version until they re-fetch it; LinkedIn's Post Inspector can force a refresh there.
- What is the difference between og: tags and twitter: tags?
- Open Graph tags are read by most platforms. X reads twitter:card to choose the card layout and falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image when twitter: versions are absent.
