About the utm link builder
Build campaign links tagged with UTM parameters so your analytics can tell which channel sent each visitor. One-click presets fill source and medium for Product Hunt, X, LinkedIn, Hacker News, Reddit and newsletters. The link updates as you type.
How to use it
- Paste the destination URL you want people to land on.
- Tap a channel preset, or type your own source and medium.
- Add a campaign name, and optionally content and term.
- Press Copy link and use that link in the post for that channel.
Questions
- What are UTM parameters?
- Query-string tags added to a URL: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content and utm_term. Analytics tools read them to attribute a visit to a channel and campaign.
- Which UTM parameters are required?
- Source and medium are the ones reports group by, so always set both. Campaign is strongly recommended; content and term are optional.
- What is the difference between utm_source and utm_medium?
- Source is where the visit came from, such as producthunt or newsletter. Medium is the type of traffic, such as referral, social or email.
- Are UTM values case-sensitive?
- Yes, in Google Analytics and most other tools, so X and x become two different sources. Pick a convention, usually lowercase, and stick to it.
