About the meta tag generator
Generate the title, description, Open Graph and Twitter card tags for a page as one block ready to paste into your HTML head. Live character counts show the title against 60 and the description against 160, roughly where search results cut them off, so you can edit before anything is truncated.
How to use it
- Enter a title; the tag block appears on the right as soon as there is one.
- Add a description, your canonical URL, a social image URL and your site name.
- Watch the counters and trim anything marked as will truncate.
- Press Copy tags and paste the block inside your page's head element.
- After deploying, run the page through the social preview checker to confirm it renders.
Questions
- How long should a meta title be?
- Aim for about 50 to 60 characters. Google truncates by pixel width rather than character count, so 60 is a practical ceiling rather than an exact rule.
- How long should a meta description be?
- Around 150 to 160 characters before Google cuts it off on desktop. Google may also rewrite the description if it thinks other page text matches the search better.
- Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter card tags?
- Open Graph tags cover most platforms. twitter:card is still needed to get the large image card on X, which is why the generator includes both.
- What is a canonical URL?
- It tells search engines which address is the main version of a page, so duplicates such as tracking-parameter variants do not compete with it in results.
